A narrow, dusty road led me to the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Nauthala village in Mehsi block of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, where I had gone looking for a story. I first met Shabnam Jahan in July last year when I visited her Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Balrampur district’s Pachpedva block. For the girls of Kaiserganj KGBV, Christmas came in early this year with Join My Village donor, Merck, being the Santa Claus for them. The road trip to Risiya block in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh was a painful one, but the talented girls of KGBV made it worth the effort.
